Today over 50% of all patients are from diverse backgrounds. Research shows that most general practitioners and medical specialists overestimate their level of intercultural competence. (Paternotte, 2016) Lack of intercultural knowledge, skills and attitude leads to exclusion and obstacles in providing optimal health care to all patients.
Please join Raya Nunez Mahdi and Carlos Nunez – two of the authors of the book “Intercultural Competence in Health Care”, who will lead us in this interactive, hybrid,  workshop to demonstrate how we can apply our expertise as interculturalists to help doctors and nurses gain intercultural competence, and to embrace the diversity among their patients and colleagues as sources of innovation and professional growth.
Contents:

Practical cases in healthcare settings.
The five steps to intercultural competence for healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the workshop, participants can use their own intercultural training expertise in the context of health care.
